The Oathbreakers Culling

Killing, beating, interrogation, and threats were common all across Elanthia from Wehnimer's Landing to Rivers Rest to as far as Ta'Illistim. They were more random in the beginning as the Council collected strength and they grew more and more focused as our story will tell. Here are several examples that occured with witnesses nearby or as recountings.

It wasn't restricted internally. Anyone who spoke about the Council or against it were targeted.

Ex-Council Member

A converted Voln member who had spoken out openly about the Poohbah and their tactics was dealt with effeciently.

A thin loop of rope falls from above and encircles (the victim's) neck. He's hauled into the air kicking. First he turns first purple, then blue, then black. The rope is suddenly cut and his body falls to the ground, quite dead.

An icy voice whispers, "Traitor."

The Non-Believer

About-to-be victim says, "I think the Dark Assassin are long gone."

You see a thin wire thrown across the victim's throat causing his eyes to bulge.

(Victim) gives off a garbled gasp and you see his head fall at your feet.

You hear a malicious voice rasp from the shadows, "You should not speak of matters that can be detrimental to your health!" * (victim) drops dead at your feet!

A Dark Assassin says, "You were mistaken.

A Dark Assassin adds, "Your membership has been revoked for your lack of dedication."

Testing Fate

You say, "Dark assassins will not kill me in the Voln courtyard."

You hear a chilling voice whisper in your ear, "Continue to test our patience, and we will certainly see our commitment to silencing your flapping tongue."

Meanwhile, later in Town Square...

You see movement in the shadows.

Dannah asks, "Assassins?"

Your head snaps back suddenly as a hand clamps over your mouth and pulls you backwards. Three slashes across your throat cut short any attempt to scream.

... 175 points of damage!
Incredible slash to your neck!
Throat and vocal cords destroyed!
Zero chance of survival.

You struggle briefly, but you collapse and fall to the ground as your strength fails. You barely make out the shadowy figure looming above you as your vision blurs and your senses grow dim.

You can still hear the words cold and clear before everything goes dark, "That is a high price to learn the value of silence."

Everything goes dark and the last thing you hear are faint footsteps and a sinister laughter fading away.

A Warning Delivered

I was bitching about a task and then said something like, "Do it yourself, lazy Master of Gifts!" I then had a dagger with a black-inked scroll stabbed by it thrown two centimeters infront of my face.

It reads:
Those who speak ill of their masters must watch their step.

The silver daggers would become a hallmark of the Grand Assassin of the Council of Light, Lacheis Taurvon

Demotion for Insolence

You say, "Yo Lacheis, why don't you come kill me."

-------------------------------------------------
You sense the thoughts of the Grand Poohbah:
"My child, you have not abided by your vow of
secrecy and have permitted non-members to identify
your affiliation. As such, I strip you of your
powers for 30 minutes, so that you might have
time to reflect upon your actions."
-------------------------------------------------

A voice from the shadows whispers, "It is most unwise to speak the name of the assassin."

You say, "Come get it, Lacheis."

You hear the sound of footsteps close behind you.

A voice from the shadows whispers, "You think I would come for you in so public a place? Your end will come at a time of my choosing."

The crickets stop chirping, and a twig can be heard to snap nearby.

Your head snaps back suddenly as a hand clamps over your mouth and pulls you backwards. Three slashes across your throat cut short any attempt to scream.

... 280 points of damage!
Incredible slash to your neck!
Throat and vocal cords destroyed!
Zero chance of survival.

It seems you have died, my friend. Although you cannot do anything, you are keenly aware of what is going on around you...

You struggle briefly, but you collapse and fall to the ground as your strength fails. You barely make out the shadowy figure looming above you as your vision blurs and your senses grow dim. You can still hear the words cold and clear before everything goes dark,

"You took an oath of silence, and this is a reminder that if you can't keep your oath there are far more painful ways to be certain you do. I have reduced you by 5 ranks in the Society. That is a high price to learn the value of silence."

Everything goes dark and the last thing you hear are faint footsteps and a sinister laughter fading away.

The Heir Apparant? Apparantly not

(signal) "Screw the Poohbah"

(signal) "Drops his guard"

(signal) "Then bam!"

Hiroti signals, "Then rightfully take your place as the new poohbah."

An icy voice whispers, "You take the Poohbah's name in vain. This is your end. I am going to end your life and remove you from the Council."

You sense something is wrong.

A black arrow whistles in and pierces your throat. It explodes in a violent blast, showering the surroundings with bits of flesh, blood, bone, sinew and other gooey bits.

Hiroti exclaims, "No!"

You briefly glimpse a furtive figure lurking in the shadows.

An icy voice whispers, "Your time in the Council is at an end."

An icy voice whispers, "Soon, all memory of you will be erased from our books, and it its place shall be written, "One who betrayed his oaths and his Master."

You briefly glimpse a furtive figure lurking in the shadows.

You hear the sound of footsteps close behind you.

An icy voice whispers, "Your own words have damned you. You are but dust to us."

(signal) "My words!"

(signal) "I hardly revealed any secrecy."

An icy voice whispers, "You are ordered to appear at once to beg for your miserable existance."

[Catacombs, Office]
You notice the Grand Poohbah.
Obvious exits: out

The Grand Poohbah says, "You were always one of my favorites"

The Poohbah smirks.

You fall forward on your knees and beg the Grand Poohbah for mercy and kindness!

Speaking to the Grand Poohbah, you say, "My insolence has offended you."

Speaking to the Grand Poohbah, you say, "Rightfully so."

Speaking to the Grand Poohbah, you say, "I know I've let you down."

Speaking to the Grand Poohbah, you say, "I assure you though."

Speaking to the Grand Poohbah, you say, "If you give me the chance."

Speaking to the Grand Poohbah, you say, "The oath I once recited will be an oath indeed."

You grovel at the Grand Poohbah, begging for mercy and kindness!

The Grand Poohbah intones, "To begin the process of attonement for your words and slurs, you shall start by delivering fifty sets of full plate as a gift to our armies." The Grand Poohbah indicates the audience is at an end.

The Grand Poohbah adds, "Now go!"

Your head snaps back suddenly as a hand clamps over your mouth and pulls you backwards. Three slashes across your throat cut short any attempt to scream.

... 162 points of damage!
Incredible slash to your neck!
Throat and vocal cords destroyed!
Zero chance of survival.
The brilliant aura fades away from you.

It seems you have died, my friend. Although you cannot do anything, you are keenly aware of what is going on around you...

You briefly glimpse a furtive figure lurking in the shadows.

You hear the sound of footsteps close behind you.
